Baby Discipline

Kimberley Clayton Blaine, MA, MFT

Is there really such a thing?  Yes, Discipline means to guide.  After you have baby proofed your home you will find that there are things that simply can’t be baby proofed!

Here are some tips on how to guide baby as they begin their journey of exploration:

Redirection and Diversion are the most effective tactics for keeping babies safe. Try not to say ”No” too much, save the “no’s” for the real big problems – like grabbing your hot coffee or running out into danger.

Using the simple term, “not for baby” lets them know that the item or area is not for babies. Show them “what is okay for babies.” Give them a new item of interest or move them to another exciting location. You’ll have to do this a lot, but eventually, they’ll get it.
